This is our favorite restaurant in Rock Hill!! Our favorites include the Caramel Apple Salad, the crab cakes and the sweet potato fries. The owner is top notch and the service has always been good. It is where we regularly go for our kid-free evenings!!

I went expecting southern style comfort food as the name suggests. At this point this is basically a pizza place and bar under new ownership. The salad was very good. The menu I had seen posted online was not offered. The pizza and wings were average. Ignore the older reviews.

A great date night restaurant option. The atmosphere is simplistic yet artsy. I recommend the salads. The salad dressing is homemade and absolutely delicious. Avoid the creamy pastas if you have a dairy sensitivity. They use heavy creamer in the pasta sauces. I can usually eat a little Alfredo but this was way to heavy for me. Overall I'd definitely return for salad and apps, maybe over glass of wine with good conversation.

I can this week with my co workers after work one day for a bite to eat. Nice little restaurant with a great local crowd....especially at the bar. I agree about the "identity" comments is it Italian? or "Modern Comfort Food" like it states on the door? I'll say this, the food was good. 3 of us had the Chicken Involtina which came highly recommended. Fettuccini with a nice cream sauce and chicken rolled with spinach, cheese and prosciutto all blended nicely together. Another person had the Cheerwine Chicken which was also tasty since I had to try a bite. The owner came over and spoke to us for a bit and they just got in a pizza oven so stay tuned for fresh pizzas. Although he didn't follow up on his promise to deliver some free pies to our office the next day, I'll be back to try it!

Man, I hate to do this, but Culina really seems to have gone downhill since we last visited. The two stars are because the food was really good, but I feel like they're having an identity crisis. The first few times we went, they had really inventive southern comfort food on the menu; now 75% of the menu is Italian, and it's not even inventive Italian. It's literally spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, baked ziti, etc - Olive Garden fare. We struggled finding an entree, so I got the caramel apple salad, the fella got the calamari appetizer, and we split the Korean pork belly sliders (there were 2 with tasty chips). All that was delicious, but I get the feeling there's a really awesome chef working with a really boring menu. The service was pretty spotty, and we were there at 5:30 on a Saturday evening when it wasn't even busy. Our waiter told us Educated Guess wine was their "high end" wine, but that's a $20 bottle in the store. Ugh. They also messed up our Open Table reservation and canceled it instead of confirming it. When we called to get it fixed, they wanted our account username and password to try to log in and fix it that way. Say wha? Overall, the food was great, but the rest was so crummy that we decided we wouldn't be back. I miss the old Culina.

Where to start? Ignore the older reviews... this is a local bar coexisting as a restaurant. Overall it was disappointing and chaotic! Waited a while for someone to "find" menus, then another 5 minutes for drink order. Service 1 at best, I had to get up to get iced tea refills & encountered our server maximum of 4 times over an hour's period. I had roast beef sliders w/alleged local made chips... don't know which was colder! If they make chips keep 'em fresh... I can open a bag myself! Wife had ahi tuna salad allegedly "medium". One side medium the other closer to rare which she doesn't like. We also ordered garlic, Parmesan wings as an appetizer... we got them with our entrees. I could continue, but surmise to say... we won't go back.

We visited Culina this weekend by recommendation of a friend & had a fantastic time! The ambient is really great, service was super-quick & helpful, an the food was top-notch! The Home-made Tots were fantastic, and so were our main courses - Korean Beef Sliders & Pomegranate Chicken! We'll be back soon!

What a fortunate stumble-upon. We were in the area for a rare shopping outing and looked through Yelp for a nice eating venue. We expected to be heading home well before 5 when this restaurant opened but, fortuitously, we were delayed, arriving when the doors opened. What delicious food - light, prepared meticulously. The salad with apple, walnuts, bleu cheese and a sumptuous balsamic & olive oil dressing followed be tomato pie and then a lovely chicken dish featuring shitake mushrooms and sweet potato "sauce" and lettuce base. The desserts were extraordinary and we'll say no more - don't leave without trying them. Our server was knowledgeable and genuinely excited about his fare. Kelly, the owner, came from the kitchen to greet us. We live greater than 100 miles from there but are already planning our return.

Wow - great food. This place could compete anywhere. Started with a salad that had a really good strawberry vinaigrette. Had a seafood dish - cooked perfectly, tasted great. Other food was equally good. Service was good.

Great Service. Great Food. We had the tomato Pie which the dough is made from Cafe Du Monde Mix. We had crab Cakes that were Gluten Free. In other words, no bread fillers. They were delicious. We also had the scallops. Fantastic. We had the key lime pie for dessert. Everything was very good and fresh. Can't wait to try the brunch on a Sunday. On Tuesday, they have the fried chicken. Excellent tapas type food for an excellent fun night out. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. Go enjoy this gem in Rock Hill.

As a Chef I generally do not write reviews of places I go, but I would like to say a few things about Culinia. My girlfriend and I go out to eat quite a bit when we are together. We love to try new places and see what good food they have to offer. We do spend most of my nights off doing so. She has told me about this place she found and has wanted to try it, so on Christmas eve day as we were driving around we decided to go and try them for lunch. I was impressed that as we were waiting for them to open for lunch, one of the servers came outside and asked if we had any questions about the menu and that they would be opening in a few minutes. As we were waiting we looked on line at the menu and found a fee items we would like to try. I must say that the Apple Caramel salad is a must try. This was the highlight of the experience. The server kept having his pants slide down as he walked around, not very appetizing or attractive. We ordered the salad and each a sandwich. I ordered the meatball sub and she the fried eggplant. The server brought us our sub's, but no salad. he realized his error and returned the sub's to the kitchen and said that he would have them make new ones. He brought the salad that as I said earlier it was fantastic. When the sub's came back out, it was obvious that hat they had just been reheated and not fresh ones made. Her eggplant was soggy and luke warm is giving it credit. The meatballs on mine had a good taste but were just as warm as her eggplant. All in all not a very good first impression. They did take the sub's off the bill and a discount on the salad. I would say as a whole I was impressed, just not favorably.

Visited this little gem because of the Yelp reviews for the area. "Express Lunch" option of lasagna, salad and roll for $8.00 was more then just a pleasant surprise. The salad was fresh with homemade dressing, the lasagna was exceptional and a dinner size portion and even the roll was delicious. But wait, there's more. The homemade bread pudding was as good as I've ever had. Topped off with excellent coffee a b d this was a most memorable lunch. Nice friendly attentive staff.

Called for a 9pm reservation just now on a Saturday. They're website and menu say they're open until 10pm. I was told they close at 9pm if they're slow. We'll never call again. It was only 8pm when we called. Pretty stupid way to run a restaurant. Probably not busy for reasons like this one. Good luck

Was a regular until the original owners moved on to where ever. Last few attempts to get a good meal failed on pretty much all counts. The last straw was watching the cook continue to prepare food after being cut on the hand- no bandage, just a towel between blood and my food. Not exactly safe food handling.

Disappointed. My wife's chicken breast was actually cold! and the other three pieces were a wing, a thigh, and the "drum stick part of a wing". The scallops were ok, but were not cooked properly for blackened. They were also very small. The corn / lettuce bed was simply uninterintesting. The sweet potato fries could have been good, but the sweet sauce they smothered them in ruined them, and made them soggy to boot. I will not be back to this place. Which is a shame, because Rock Hill needs good resturants ... unfortunately, this place is not it.

What a great place. Great service and lots of extras they give you. Their new ovens for pizza are great and their involtino chicken is 5 out of 5 stars. Their salad and homemade balsamic vinagrettes are amazing (mine was orange something -- awesome). their prices are fair and the portions are perfectly sized. Great place. I highly recommend.

Awesomeness in the form of food! We had the crawfish mac&cheese, the Thai brined wings, and the calamari and washed it down with Copper beer in a copper mug (cool points). The calamari was the only low. Although crispy fried and an interesting sauce accompaniment, the calamari didn't have much stand alone appeal. The crawfish mac, conversely, had plenty of badda bing. Plenty of crawfish and great cheese blend provide different textures and taste, and then pops of cherry tomato halves to surprise your taste buds. The chicken was a little tough (probably frozen), but the process for making them was worth trying alone, a little less sauce on the "salad" would have been appreciated, but hey those are individual preferences. Go and enjoy.

Amazing food!! Cheerwine fried chicken was so fresh, so crispy! Cole slaw and mash potatoes were very flavorful. Who would have thought a cheerwine reduction sauce would be sooo good. The service was surprisingly slow. It took about 10 minutes for our server to greet the table. Bar drinks took another 20 mins. Though the prices were high for the portions, the local freshness and new flavors are worth the trip. Ill def be back!

What a great addition to Rock Hill! The food is FANTASTIC -- the atmosphere is great and the prices are very very reasonable! Everything on the menu seemed to be "familiar but with a twist" -- the pork "tacos" I had sure fit that bill-- very tasty and a little different from anything I have had before. The crab cakes were wonderful as was the bread pudding for dessert! I will be back!!!

10/30/13 Update: they are now closed at lunch. Amazing food for little money. I had the Cubana sandwich; they said they smoked their own pork and I believe them as the pork and total sandwich was great. Try $6 for this amazing sandwich. When they told me they made their own ice cream and one of the flavors was butter pecan, well what can any man do but order it. I haven't had ice cream this rich and flavorful since I was eight years old, and that was quite awhile ago. I came from Charlotte to try this place and the trip was worth it. For those accountants reading this the costs benefit analysis is simple: when I left the restaurant, about a mile away, I saw a gas station and two was the first digit for the price of gas. Now you can not match that in Charlotte. Go and enjoy.

I LOVE this place! Tapas style dining in the evening and amazing Sunday brunch options. You must try the chicken and waffles with cheerwine syrup, the shrimp and grits, crab cake benedicts or the gravy biscuits for brunch. Going for dinner? Try the sweet potato fries and the beet carpaccio as some of your small plates options. The beignets are to die for if you save room for dessert. This place is so good!

Culina offers an upscale fusion cuisine & should bill itself as a "tapas" style restaurant. You will not find "fill you up" entrees. On a Friday night it is a louder-than-average 20s-30s bar scene with many patrons well-acquainted with one another. Great fun and camaraderie which may not suit a quiet evening of dining for some couples... or those who are not regulars and known. The stated restaurant philosophy is to "share little plates" which are whisked away when used and replaced with new plates (& clean utensils) as required... you see... menu items selected come out when ready & some at a table may get served before others. Rarely will ALL be served at the same time. I do not know how often the menu changes; I'm told that it does. However, it will not take too many visits to sample nearly all the menu offers. The caramel apple salad is a MUST TRY and pretty filling. If a salad could be a dessert, this one qualifies. However a "share plate" order of scallops consists of 3 (1.25 round x 0.5 inch @ $16). The crabcakes (2) are hot-spicy no-filler backfin crab served with a horseradish sauce roughly 1.5-2.0 round by 0,5 inch ($10). The tomato Pie (4.5-inch round) is very good ($8). Some will find this serving style gets pricey quickly. Tomato pie, scallops, crab cakes, and bok choy salad (all shared plates) hits $42; add a couple of drinks each, one dessert, two coffees & tip to see $80 easily. Though not for everyone, Culina is an eclectic individual experience, not common at all. The brunch menu on Sundays seems a more traditional offering although I have not yet done brunch. Be advised that the eggs offered seem to be POACHED only according to the menu. ALSO both dinner & brunch menus declare at the bottom: NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Reservations for a Friday or Saturday night are likely necessary for a seating other than at the bar... which might also be full.
I came to visit this cute but modern restaurant with a friend of mine for lunch . I'm not a picky person but I just didn't know what to choose from . The chef actually came over and personally asked me what my little heart desired and let's just say he got it perfectly . He decided that I should get chicken with mixed vegetables in a linguine pasta with white wine sauce . If anyone reads my reviews , this is a must ! Especially if you get tired of pasta in red sauce . A good tasty alternative . Now my friend got the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and I had a little taste and couldn't stop digging my fork on his plate . The sauce was so rich and elegant . If the sauce was sold in jars it would be sold out . Not to mention the pasta is made in house ! Also with our entrees we received a roll that was well received with us the Parmesan just set it off . Our salads had a Italian vinaigrette that was house made and just say my crave for an Italian salad is cured . The service was amazing and I found it ever elegant to have water in a pop off vase . The presentation was eloquent .

We had several delicious offerings which made for a very pleasant dining experience. The menu contains some nice, fresh takes on classic dishes. The house tots were delicious and large enough to cut into pieces. I had the crab cake sliders which were ample-sized and had an excellent sauce on them with accompanying house chips that are seasoned with a zesty barbecue-chip seasoning. My husband had the Cheerwine chicken and was very impressed with the unique flavor and tenderness. We had the gooey brownie sundae for dessert. We are brownie connoisseurs and this may have been the best brownie we have ever eaten. It is topped with a freshly prepared whipped cream and ice cream with a warm caramel sauce. Possibly one of the most elegant, delicious brownies ever. We were told that the fried banana pudding has received many compliments but the brownie was too good to pass up.

My wife Catherine and I made our first voyage to Rock Hill tonight to visit culina and my buddy, Chef Melton blew us away. The deconstructed Po' Boy was one of the most innovative dishes I've ever had. My wife, who I am trying to cure of her hatred for any food that swims in, looks at or, to excess, drinks water, salt or otherwise, not only devoured her share of the beautifully grilled U3 (or close), but attempted to fight for mine as well. The airy yet chewy texture and slight sweetness of the pork buns would make a Chinese grandmother cry - not to mention the contrast of crisp cucumber, carrot and daikon against unctuous pork that had to have cooked for at least a day. The freshness of the Tomato Tart made us briefly forget that it was early December. The Frogs Legs would have made Phil proud. Another first for Catherine, who ate a least two until the steaming cup of French Onion soup arrived and she forgot that the frog legs and me were there. The Scallops, seared and seasoned to perfection on the outside and 10 degrees above raw on the inside. Paired with a crisp, house-made, relish, they were some of the best I've ever had. culina has swiftly solidified it's spot in my top 5 restaurants ever. Please check it out. We will be back.

The food is worthy of any city in the US. The service is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The only thing holding this Rock Hill gem from a 5 star rating is timing. I live small plates and they do them well at Culina. Unfortunately the timing between plates is a little slow. Almost unbearably so. However the flavors are worth the wait. Everything we had from the gumbo to the Thai wins to the Korean Pork was top shelf. We will come back and so should you just goblin eyes open the tempo here is beyond Southern slow.

The waitstaff was extremely knowledgeable. The tomato pie appetizer was a new and wonderful dish. The crab cakes were great. Fried chicken and crawfish Mac and cheese were both excellent. Finished it off with the best bread pudding I have ever had. All at good prices. A great addition to Rock Hill. Keep up the great job.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. My fiancé and I came in here and split a few plates, and not only did we not have a bad plate, but not even a bad bite! We had the tomato pie, which was incredible. Then followed with the Thai Chicken Wings, Korean Pork Belly Sliders, and the Crawfish Mac and Cheese. As an italian food lover I never expect non-Italian restaurants to have their pasta al dente, but this was perfect. We even had Moscow Mules in copper mugs!!! Rock Hill needs more places like this. Can't wait to come back again.
